Apr 3, 2024. New “Lead Court” opens in City of Buffalo "There’s a new effort in Buffalo City Court to address a backlog that stretches year in cases that deal with lead poisoning. For many years, the local court system has operated housing and drug courts. Now, a new court will be created in Buffalo: a 'Lead Court' that will be geared toward remediating homes."

"A letter from 80 medical professionals urges the City of Buffalo to follow through on the Proactive Rental Inspections law. The law mandates regular inspections of rental properties and the goal is to reduce high rates of lead poisoning among children in Buffalo."

Investigative Post: "Buffalo sued over inner-city lead poisoning" "Tenants and community organizations are taking the City of Buffalo to court, contending it is failing to enforce rental inspection laws aimed at reducing lead paint in the city’s aging housing stock. The inspection law, enacted in 2020, was in response to the large number of children testing with high levels of lead in their blood. City inspectors have conducted relatively few inspections since then, according to the lawsuit."
