Overview of 2024 Challenges and Questions

1. Will the LSCC model collapse in 2024? If yes, what needs to be fixed? Recent events suggest that the LSCC model of voluntary compliance has failed. The city has two paths from here. 

• Walk away from the program. Let LSCC spend their existing funds. Fight over where and whether LSCC gets operationas funding from public sources

• City enacts legislative changes that make enforcement easier and additional funding for additional enforcement activities.

The emergence of a legislative at the Ohio General Assembly hints a long expected "push back" by landlords may be on the horizon.

2. Is CLASH in a media blackout? What is the price that we pay for happy news?  Earlier comments may have been an overreaction but when there is a media drought, CLASH needs

   • some alt-media outlets where we can tell OUR story.

   •  some "happy" aka human interest stories and more survivor spokespersons.

   • a reputation for "fact-based, quick response" answers to reporters who are burdened down by myths about lead

3. What collaborations can we work with EPA in the coming year?

• SoilSHOP--Link to Lead Safe Resource Fair

• Funding opportunities

• Supply EPA literature for CLASH to distribute to paint sellers and child service centers.

4. Collaborations with skill based organizations in areas where we're weak

• Child testing

• Home testing

• Legal services

• Case management

5. Volunteer recruitment and retention. 

• Identify Board alternates who will take on active roles

• Identify potential activists in other organizations

• Volunteer stipends: who gets them, when, how funded?

• Cross training and understudies

6. Expand the playing field

• Beyond the home--Toxics, brownfields, etc

• Suburban outreach

• Ethnic communities

7. How will Cleveland City Council redistricting reshape CLASH's Advocacy agenda?
