One and never done: Citizen Science

CLASH can help you turn activities into advocacy

CLASH can help you move to advocacy by providing research, planning, training, volunteers and publicity. Since 2016, CLASH has been challenge those in power to create and enforce laws and policies that will protect the most vulnerable citizens from exposure to lead. 

Then, take action to challenge lead hazards where you live.

Soil Survey -- Gather and test soil samples from vacant lots, play areas, and dump sites in your neighborhood. Grist has a plan. CLASH has the tools. 

DIY fixups and cleanups -- train neighborhood helpers in lead safe practices before they undertake vacant lot cleanups or DIY remodeling.

Fix'm up or Tear'm down--There are over 400 lead contaminated houses in Cleveland. Some are in court, others are just abandoned. Identify these lead risks and advocate for remediation or demolition.

Identify industrial sources of lead in Cuyahoga County. Work with EPA Region 5 to identify lead emitters and find out what residential areas could be downwind of lead emitters. EPA Toxic Release Inventory and Backgrounder

Train tenants to report and enforce lead safety and lead disclosure laws: identify lead code violations, and encourage owner compliance with Cleveland’s Lead Safe Certificate law.
